1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. Read 1,000 books with the children in your life before they begin kindergarten and instill key language and vocabulary skills. All children up to age 5 are encouraged to participate.

Get Started

Register your child here and use the online tracker to log your reading with Beanstack. Along the way, you will earn digital badges to highlight your progress. Earn a NOLS tote bag when you’ve read 500 books and a celebratory book for your personal collection at 1,000! Prefer to keep track on a paper form? Contact library staff at 360.417.8500×2 or youth@nols.org to have paper tracker forms mailed to you or pick one up in the Library.
