NOLS opened the doors to the new Sequim Library on March 21 and welcomed 1,256 happy library visitors with 1,783 checkouts and 36 new library card signups just in the first day! Watch a great video from the first day here.
Since then, the library has been extremely busy. Toddlers enjoying Storytime, teens hanging out after school, and community groups booking the new meeting rooms have been just a few of the highlights.
While the library is open, you might notice that some fine tuning is still happening. The contractor continues to work through the punch list of tasks and things that need to be repaired or corrected, which is typical of a big construction project.
Every week there are a variety of subcontractors on site. Plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, landscapers and others are all working to address small issues that need to be adjusted to make sure we have the best possible building. Most of this work happens outside of regular operating hours and causes only minor disruptions, but there will likely be some more noticeable and disruptive work in the upcoming weeks.
Beginning May 18, at least a dozen windows will be temporarily removed for about a week while an installation issue is addressed. Afterwards, a cedar screen wall on the east side of the building will be constructed. These projects will likely temporarily block areas inside and outside the library for a period of time.
In addition to the contractors completing their work, library staff are still settling in – figuring out new layouts, routines, and use of the space. Many thanks to the Sequim staff for navigating all of this change while continuing to serve an incredible amount of people every day!
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as the project is wrapped up. If you have any suggestions or concerns, we encourage you to let staff know or contact the Sequim Branch Manager, Emily Sly, directly.
A celebratory event is being planned for the late summer. More information about the event will be shared soon!
