The Sequim Library Project is nearly complete! The cedar sunshade on the east wall of windows will be installed during the month of October. While there are some small items that the contractor will be finishing, this sunshade is the final large-scale building element.
The sunshade was part of the original building design, but installation was postponed due to extended shipping delays on some of the custom components. Once finished, the sunshade will reduce solar heat gain and help the HVAC system maintain a comfortable temperature. It will also help limit the glare from direct sunlight and reduce UV impacts on library materials.
The contractors began installing the brackets in late September and will continue to work prior to open hours and on Sundays when the library is closed. Because of the limited daylight hours available for installation, it will take several weeks before it will be ready for the vertical wood slats to be installed. Current completion date is estimated to be the end of October.

Because we’ve been operating out of the building since March, the addition of the sunshade may be a bit of a transition for everyone familiar with the building. The sunshade was carefully considered during the early design phase through review of architectural mock-ups, visits to other libraries in the region to view similar features, and thoughtful adjustments made to the exact layout and size of the sunshade.
We are looking forward to project completion. Reach out if you have any questions by emailing sequim@nols.org.
