Open Call for Art!
Drawn Here: Comic Art in the Library

Applications now open.
Deadline for submissions: Saturday, October 17

Exhibition dates: November 20, 2026 – February 13, 2027

Open call for art! People living on the Olympic Peninsula are invited to submit artwork inspired by comic books, graphic novels, and manga for the “Drawn Here: Comic Art in the Library” exhibition at the Port Angeles Main Library. Adults, teens, and children of all artistic experience levels are encouraged to enter.

About the Theme

Comic books are powerful storytelling tools that combine words and pictures to create a strong emotional impact. This helps writers and artists make big ideas easier to understand, express meaningful moments, or simply make us laugh and have fun. Comics can also inspire reluctant readers to grow their love for books.

The artwork you enter can be a comic panel, feature iconic comic or manga characters from pop culture, or be created in a style inspired by comics, graphic novels, or manga.

How to Enter

Please enter up to two original works of art per person. Entry is free. Due to space limitations, not all artwork will be chosen for display. If selected for the exhibition, you may list your artwork for sale and handle the sale directly; NOLS does not take a commission. Any sold artwork will remain on display for the show.

Deadline for submissions is Saturday, October 17. Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of Library staff.

Youth

As an alternative option to entering online, youth up to age 18 may drop off one completed work on an 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper at the front desk of the Port Angeles Main Library by Saturday, October 17. These works will be displayed on the library’s slat walls in acrylic holders. Depending on the number of works received, pieces may be rotated in and out during the show to ensure all works get a chance to shine!

*Do not fill out online form if using the drop-off option for youth.

All Ages

Submit your artwork and information on the online form. Required information includes:

  • Artist name and contact information for artist (or parent/guardian for youth).
  • A brief description of the artwork you’d like to exhibit including the title and materials/format.
  • Dimensions and/or display needs.
  • Images of the artwork—in a file size less than 10MB, or a link to digital media or performing art.
  • The city you are currently living in or consider home.
Artwork Drop-off and Other Details

If your work is chosen for the exhibition, you will be contacted by NOLS for further information about display and other coordinating details. Selected artwork must be dropped off on Friday, November 6 or Saturday, November 7, at the Port Angeles Main Library. At the time of drop-off, artwork should be ready to hang or display. Artists and community members are invited to the exhibition opening reception, 6:30-8pm on Friday, November 20. Artwork must be picked up between February 15-17.

Art in the Library is generously funded in part by Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
