The Port Angeles Main Library invites you to celebrate America’s 250th by being a part of the creation of a Port Angeles Community Quilt! Be creative and show what your community means to you by designing a square.

Don’t miss! Before the Community Quilt kicks off, explore other quilt events at the Port Angeles Main Library:

Community Quilt Events | Port Angeles Main Library

March 19: Kick-off Event

Thursday, March 19, 5:30–7:30pm

Gather in the Carver Room to learn more about the quilt project and enjoy watching the movie How to Make an American Quilt (1999, PG-13). Attendance is optional. Quilt block kits will be available while supplies last. View event details.

March 20: Quilt Kits

Friday, March 20 (while supplies last)

If there are any remaining quilt block kits after the kick-off event, they will be available at the front desk on a first-come, first-served basis. View hours.

You are also welcome to use your own supplies to make an 8 x 8-inch quilt square with 100% cotton fabric.

April 11: Sewing Session

Saturday, April 11, 2:00-3:30pm

Bring hand-sewing supplies and join a drop-in session to work on your square and ask additional questions. We’ll meet in an alcove in the library. Attendance is optional. View event details.

May 1: Final Day to Submit a Square

Friday, May 1, no later than 5:00pm

Completed quilt squares can be dropped off March 23 through May 1 at the Port Angeles Main Library front desk during open hours. Please arrive at least one hour prior to closing.

Quilt Square Requirements

  • 8 x 8 inches (finished)
  • Allow a minimum of ¼ inch up to ½ an inch on each side to allow for trimming/sewing.
  • Use only 100% cotton fabric.
  • Keep the quilt square flat. No fabric or embellishments should be three-dimensional or hanging off. (For display and storage purposes for the final quilt.)
  • Iron quilt squares before returning.
  • Submit only one square per person by Friday, May 1.

Final Quilt

Look for the finished community quilt at the 2026 Clallam County Fair!
After the quilt is displayed, it will be added to the North Olympic History Center’s collection.

Depending upon participation, the Library may be unable to include all squares or may choose to assemble more than one quilt. If your square is not selected for the final quilt(s), you will be contacted for pick up at the Library. Additionally, quilt squares will not be included if they do not meet the requirements.

This program is generously supported in part by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
