Author Visit for Teen Book Club at Port Angeles Main Library
Teens in grades 7-12 can meet award-winning author Aden Polydoros at Teen Book Club, hosted by the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 3:30-4:30 p.m., at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Students will gather in the Carver Room and Polydoros will join virtually via Zoom.
Wednesday Movie Matinee at Port Angeles Main Library
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites adults to enjoy movies shown on the third and fourth Wednesdays of each month in the Raymond Carver Room at the Port Angeles Main Library. The new Wednesday Movie Matinee program screens popular films from the Library’s collection in a variety of genres.
Art from the Heart workshop at Forks Library
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) welcomes local artist Daria Hunt to lead Art from the Heart, an interactive workshop on Saturday, Dec. 16, 11am-12pm, at the Forks Branch Library. Adults and teens ages 14 and older are invited to participate and all materials will be provided.
“The Boys in the Boat” book discussion hosted by Sequim Library
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites you to read “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown and talk about it at a book discussion hosted by the Sequim Branch Library. Choose to join the in-person or virtual session, or attend both dates. On Monday, Dec. 11, 6-7pm, meet library staff and other readers for the book discussion in downtown Sequim at Locally Known Cowork, 112 W. Crossword Contest at Port Angeles and Forks libraries
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is hosting a two-hour Crossword Contest starting at 10am sharp on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Forks Branch Library, 171 S. Forks Ave. Compete in teams of two or work alone to solve crossword clues while racing the clock and each other.
World AIDS Day: Art in the Library performances on Dec. 1
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites community members to enjoy live performances and view artwork during the World AIDS Day: Art in the Library exhibition opening event on Friday, Dec. 1, 6:30-8pm, at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. The exhibition celebrates work made by regional artists living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, those impacted by the journey or loss of a loved one, and others who are contributing to the conversation.

Author John Kopp to speak about U.S. Coast Guard and Rescue Boat Crews
Author John Kopp, a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Cape Disappointment rescue boat crew, will share historical details and personal insights during his presentation, “From Oars to Engines: The Rescue Boat Crews of the U.S. Life-Saving Service and U.S. Coast Guard.”
Author Matt Kracht to discuss books “OMFG, Bees!” and “Dumb Birds”
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is excited to host national bestselling writer and illustrator Matt Kracht for an author talk and book signing on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2-4pm at Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Kracht will talk about his books, “OMFG, Bees!,” “The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America,” and “The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World.”

Young voters and soon-to-be voters ages 16 to 29 are invited to speak with local legislators at a listening session hosted by the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Clallam County. The Legislative Listening Session is set for Saturday, Oct. 21, from 1-3pm at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
Exhibit, documentary and discussion explore domestic violence, provide resources
This October, in recognition of both Resilience Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) has teamed up with community partners to host events focused on building knowledge, connection, and resilience, while highlighting historical activism and current issues facing victims and survivors.
Build It! with LEGO returns to Port Angeles and West End libraries
As the weather gets colder, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) brings back an opportunity for kids and families to gather in the Library and playfully build unique LEGO creations. Build It! is offered monthly, October through April, at the Clallam Bay, Forks, and Port Angeles libraries. Kids are encouraged to develop a story about their creation as they build, which fosters imagination and storytelling skills.
Friday Tech Talk at Sequim Library, weekly in October
Community members can learn about free online resources and ask technology questions at Friday Tech Talk, a new program offered at 9:15-10am on Fridays in October at the Sequim Branch Library of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS).
Celtic harp concerts and workshops on Oct. 10 and 11
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) presents the concert Celtic Harps, Rare Instruments and Wondrous Stories with Lisa Lynne and Aryeh Frankfurter. The hour-long performances are free to attend and start at 6pm on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and at 6pm on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave.
Bad Art Night at Clallam Bay and Forks Branch Libraries

Solar Eclipse STEAM Stations at Sequim and West End Libraries
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is hosting Solar Eclipse STEAM Stations with hands-on activities for children in kindergarten through grade 7. Drop in to the free events at Sequim Branch Library on the outdoor stage from 10:30-11:30am Saturday, Sept. 30; Clallam Bay Branch Library from 1-3pm Wednesday, Oct. 4; and Forks Branch Library from 3-4pm Saturday, Oct. 7.
Anime and Manga Night at Sequim Branch Library
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites people of all ages to a family-friendly Anime and Manga Night at the Sequim Branch Library from 6 to 7:30pm on Friday, Sept. 22. Hi Joe Kye! family concert at NOLS libraries
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites families to Hi Joe Kye!, an interactive concert full of songs and looping with Joe Kye, a Korean American musician, storyteller, and educator. Kye will perform children’s music, share stories about being an immigrant, and teach some short Korean phrases for expressing feelings.
Graphic Poetry Workshop with Nhatt Nichols and Jaiden Dokken
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites adults and teens to the Graphic Poetry Workshop with Nhatt Nichols and Jaiden Dokken on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 5-7pm at the Port Angeles Main Library. Participants will start from a prompt and then distill their writing to the bare bones of observation before breaking it into panels and adding drawings to create complex visual poems.
Teens can explore interests, meet friends at NOLS

All NOLS branches are seeking new members for the Teen Advisory Board. Members will gain leadership skills and earn volunteer hours while collaborating with library staff and peers to plan teen events and help make the library a fun, supportive, and engaging place for teens. Storytime returns to all branches of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) after Labor Day. The free 30-minute program is offered weekly in Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks, and monthly in Clallam Bay. Children and their adults can enjoy stories, music, rhymes, and plenty of movement and fun.

Poetry Reading with Clallam County Poet Laureate in Forks and Sequim
Clallam County Poet Laureate Jaiden Dokken will be reading poetry at the Forks and Sequim branches of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Jaiden will share a selection of their poetry, and read works by other poets. Jaiden’s own work is often reflective of growing up in Sequim and experiencing life on the North Olympic Peninsula. NOLS surpasses 100,000 digital checkouts for 2023
Public libraries continue to evolve to meet the needs of patrons through digital connectivity. As of July 26, library cardholders of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) have borrowed a record-breaking 100,000 eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines through Libby and the Washington Anytime Library in 2023.

Summer Family Storytime
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) offers weekly Summer Family Storytime June 27 through August 4 as part of the Summer Reading Program. Listen to great books, learn new songs, and shake your wiggles out with plenty of movement and fun! Storytime is open to all ages and geared toward children age 5 and younger with activities such as talking, reading, playing, and singing that all have an important role in early childhood development.

Free Computer Classes through the Northstar Digital Literacy Program
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is teaming up with WorkSource Clallam to offer free computer classes at the Port Angeles Main Library on Thursday, April 27, 2:30-4pm; Tuesday, May 2, 1:30-3pm; and Wednesday, May 10, 5-6:30pm. The classes are part of the Northstar Digital Literacy Program that helps job seekers gain computer skills needed to obtain employment and anyone interested in learning how to complete general tasks using a computer.
Sequim Library Expansion and Renovation Project – Community Presentation
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is working to renovate and expand the Sequim Branch Library! When complete, the project will help improve critical infrastructure including ADA-accessible bathrooms, expanded community access to broadband and computers, and create adequate office space and room for educational, cultural and civic events.

NOLS Closed April 20 for Staff Training
All North Olympic Library System (NOLS) branches will be closed on Thursday, April 20, to allow staff to attend an in-service training day. Olympic National Park’s Perspectives Winter Speaker Series, “Dealing with Asian Clams, a New Aquatic Invader on the Olympic Peninsula,”
On Tuesday, April 11 at 7pm, aquatic and population biologist Dr. David Cowles will discuss the invasive species known as the Asian or Golden Clam, and its impact on the Olympic Peninsula, in the final presentation of this season’s Olympic National Park’s Perspectives Winter Speaker Series. Science Talk: Gravitational Waves with LIGO on April 17
LIGO Hanford Observatory science educator Cassidy Eassa will give a talk about the fascinating physics, astronomy, and engineering necessary for one of the most sophisticated scientific instruments ever built to detect gravitational waves. NOLS and Olympic National Park offer Poetry Walks along five trails in April and May
Poetry Walks features nature-themed poems placed in inspiring locations along five Olympic National Park trails from April 1 through May 31. Returning for its ninth year, the experience is designed by North Olympic Library System (NOLS) in partnership with Olympic National Park to combine nature and art in playful and poignant ways.
Teen Lock-In at Forks Branch Library, March 31
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will host an after-hours “Lock-In” for teens in 7th–12th grades on Friday, March 31, from 5 to 7pm at the Forks Branch Library. The night’s activities will include food, games, crafts, and more! This event was designed with input from the NOLS Teen Advisory Board.
Anime and Manga Night at Sequim Branch Library
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) invites people of all ages to a family-friendly Anime and Manga Night at the Sequim Branch Library from 6 to 7:30pm on Friday, March 31. Attendees can watch anime, enjoy Japanese snacks, make origami, draw, color, and talk about manga.

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) hosts four Book Discussion Group meetings monthly. Meet Jaiden Dokken, the first Clallam County Poet Laureate
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS), in partnership with Clallam County, is excited to announce that Jaiden Dokken has been named the first Clallam County Poet Laureate. To celebrate, community members are invited to the inauguration event on Tuesday, April 18 at 6pm in the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 South Peabody St. Dokken will read a selection of their poems after opening remarks by Clallam County Commissioner Mark Ozias and NOLS librarian Clair Dunlap. The event will also be livestreamed on Zoom.
Olympic National Park’s Perspectives Winter Speaker Series, “Plant Diversity in Olympic National Park” on March 14 at 7pm
At Olympic National Park’s Perspectives Winter Speaker Series on Tuesday, March 14 at 7pm, ecologist Dr. Catharine Copass will discuss the stunning array of plant community diversity in the Park, from coastal red alder bluffs to rocky dry alpine meadows. Together We Read: “River Woman, River Demon”
North Olympic Library System (NOLS) patrons can join readers from 16,000 public libraries and colleges across the United States enjoying this year’s Together We Read digital book club selection. From March 1 to 15, booklovers can access an eBook or eAudiobook of the spellbinding psychological thriller, “River Woman, River Demon,” with no waitlists or holds.
Bad Art Night kicks off on March 20 in Forks and April 4 in Clallam Bay
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is offering Bad Art Night, an evening of fun for community members to be creative without any pressure or expectations of how the final art piece should look. This program is great for adults, teens, and families! Bad Art Night kicks off at the Forks Branch Library on Monday, March 20 at 5:30pm, and at the Clallam Bay Branch Library on Tuesday, April 4 at 4:30pm.
Fourth-grade students compete in Battle of the Books on March 24
See the joy of reading come alive as fourth-grade students from Clallam County schools take part in a trivia-style Battle of the Books competition at the Port Angeles Main Library of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS), on Friday, March 24, at 6:30pm. The competition is the culmination of a school-year reading program.

Introduction to Tarot
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) welcomes guest presenter Joanne Clarkson to lead two “Introduction to Tarot” sessions. Participants can choose to attend in person on Saturday, February 25, from 3-5pm at the Port Angeles Main Library, or virtually on Thursday, March 2, from 5-7pm on Zoom. To improve energy efficiency, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will be upgrading interior and exterior lighting at the Port Angeles Main Library. The project begins on Monday, January 30, and will be completed by March.

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is offering a new book club, BeTween Books and Crafts, at the Port Angeles Main Library for students in fourth through sixth grades. The club meets from 3:30-4:30pm on the first Thursday of each month; February 2, March 2, and April 6.
New! Family Conversation Kits
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) has developed a series of Family Conversation Kits that encourage middle grade readers (approximate ages 8-12) and their families to explore the topics of “Identity and Self-Love,” “Building Community,” and “Justice and Activism,” through reading and talking about books together.
An Escape Room for Teens: Cabin at the Edge of the Woods
The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is inviting teens in 7th-12th grades to test their puzzle-cracking skills during a frighteningly fun escape room challenge, the “Cabin at the Edge of the Woods.” The free event is on Thursday, February 9, from 5-6pm at the Port Angeles Main Library, in the Raymond Carver Room.

Kids Nature Backpacks are available at NOLS
Kids Nature Backpacks filled with fun items to encourage toddlers and preschoolers to explore the natural world are now available for checkout through the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Each backpack contains a magnifying lens, binoculars, bug net, collection box, cards with nature questions, helpful tips for caregivers, and two children’s books.
Pickleball sets are available for checkout at NOLS
Pickleball sets are now available for check out through the North Olympic Library System (NOLS). Each two-player set contains two pickleball paddles, four balls, and information on basic game rules and where to play in Clallam County. Patrons can currently borrow a set for up to seven days, subject to change based on demand.
