Kellogg Photo Collection
NOLS Kellogg Photo Collection

In 1970, Bert Kellogg donated a collection of over 5,000 photos and negatives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries to the North Olympic Library System. Mr. Kellogg worked for 30 years copying and restoring photos that he borrowed from old timers, found in old trunks, or purchased at rummage sales.

The collection includes photographs of pioneers, trains, Native Americans, ships, logging, and views of early towns and sites in Clallam County as well as some other Washington and Pacific Northwest communities. More than 4,000 of the Kellogg photos are available for viewing at the Washington Rural Heritage website.

The collection is also available in slide sets and photo prints at the Port Angeles Main Library, or by special arrangement at any NOLS location. Email Discover@nols.org to request to view material at your branch.

Douglas Williams Photo Collection
Douglas Williams Photo Collection

On July 2, 1944, photographer Douglas Williams and a group of friends began a hike through the Olympic National Park, beginning at Sol Duc Hot Springs and ending at Jackson Ranger Station. Williams captured their trip in the 43 photos in this collection, which was donated to NOLS in 2021 by the photographer’s daughter, Beverly Jo Williams, and digitized in 2022.

The collection includes photographs of the Hoh River and surrounding area, the Deer Lake region, the Low Divide, and more points of interest. All 43 Williams photos are available for viewing at the Washington Rural Heritage website, which includes scans of the back of each photo featuring the original photographers captions and notes.

The collection is also available as photo prints at the Port Angeles Main Library, or by special arrangement at any NOLS location.

Listen Up! Stories from the Northwest Corner
ListenUp

Oral histories from Clallam County residents were recorded between 2016 and 2018. Contributors recorded memories related to national parks, local communities, library memories, and military service, offering local residents the opportunity to help tell and preserve the story of Clallam County for generations to come. The program is inspired by StoryCorps, an organization focused on the collecting, sharing, and preserving of oral histories. Interviews were conducted with the participant and an interview partner. The completed recordings are available for listening on the Washington Rural Heritage website.
