Here are the steps to use a screen reader and text-to-speech on an Android, iPhone, PC, and Mac.

Android:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack. From there, you can go into TalkBack settings to adjust things like speech rate and pitch. Alternatively, you can tell Google Assistant to turn TalkBack on.

iPhone:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn the setting on. Alternatively, you can ask Siri to turn VoiceOver on.

PC:
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Narrator and turn the setting on. Alternatively, you can use the shortcut Ctrl + Windows + Enter

Start Navigating

  • Use Tab to move between items
  • Use Arrow keys to read content
  • Press Enter to activate items

Use Narrator Commands

  • Press Caps Lock + F1 for the full commands list
  • Press Caps Lock + Arrow keys to read by character, word, line, etc.

Adjust Voice Settings
Press Caps Lock + Ctrl + Plus/Minus to change voice speed
(Or go to: Settings > Accessibility > Narrator > Voice)

Stop Narrator
Press Ctrl + Windows + Enter again

Mac:
VoiceOver is a built-in screen reader that describes aloud what appears on your computer screen: it speaks the text that’s in documents and windows. To turn on VoiceOver, press Command-F5.
