Manufacturing and fabrication challenges related to specialty parts have continued to delay the completion of the new Sequim Library’s east exterior wall through mid-December, but critical parts arrived on site recently and installation of the framing that will hold a large wall of windows has begun. We hope to be able to announce an opening date in early 2026 and are excited to invite the public into the space. Until then, the temporary library location at 609 W. Washington St. remains fully operational and well used.

During the construction delays, the project team has continued to use its time as efficiently as possible, getting whatever it can done now instead of waiting for the last wall to be completed. NOLS Facility Manager Brian Phillips has been working with the third-party commissioning engineer hired by NOLS, Hamasaki Consulting Engineering Services, to bridge the gap between construction and operation, making sure everything works perfectly before handover.

The commissioning engineer ensures new equipment and systems are installed correctly, tested thoroughly, and operate as designed. This role brings the project to a functional, ready-to-use state through quality assurance, testing, troubleshooting, and client liaison to guarantee safety, efficiency, and compliance. NOLS has been able to start the commissioning of irrigation, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems and has found the process to be extremely helpful to learn about the new building and make as many improvements as possible before we open to the public.
