NOLS recently added Lynda.com to its list of free online resources, providing library cardholders with free access to thousands of online learning opportunities that would normally cost $20-$30 per month to access. Lynda.com is an online learning site that hosts a constantly growing library of more than 6,000 courses with more than 130,000 instructional videos. Lynda.com courses can also be used to prepare for Microsoft Certification Exams, which are offered at NOLS free of charge.
Library cardholders can access Lynda.com’s library of courses and instructional videos from any device with an internet connection. Users can log on and personalize their Lynda.com account to help manage course history, playlists, bookmarks and certificates of completion. Many courses also feature exercise files, so while watching a tutorial about Microsoft Excel users can follow the activity with downloadable, pre-populated Excel spreadsheet files. Lynda.com’s mobile app is not currently available for Library patrons.
Course offerings include:
Art, graphic design and music classes, teaching everything from 3D animation to sound engineering and the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and more).
Career development training offering tips on leadership, management techniques, resume writing, and more.
Computer programming, IT management (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X) and web design.
If you don’t have a NOLS library card, you can sign up for a card online or visit any NOLS branch.
