Fifty years ago, the astronauts of Apollo 11 accomplished the first landing on another world. It was the beginning of the greatest expeditions of exploration in the history of humankind. As we recognize these important anniversaries, new space races are emerging, involving both private industry as well as nations. Ron Hobbs, Solar System Ambassador for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory will discuss the Apollo program and how it set the stage for current space exploration.

Ron Hobbs is a life-long learner and is a formal and informal educator in a wide variety of settings. He is committed to sharing the wonders of nature from a scientific context. He is currently an Instructor for Bellevue College’s TELOS education program for retirees, teaching a course on the history of space exploration. Since becoming a Solar System Ambassador, he has delivered more than 200 presentations

This summertime celebration, which encourages people of all ages to read throughout the summer, features a reading challenge and a multitude of events for all ages.
