As students return to in-person learning this fall, take time to consider your interests and personal goals for learning. Whether you’re young or young-at-heart, the library supports opportunities for lifelong learning.

Children, teens, and grown-ups can access an assortment of free library resources for learning, growing, and nurturing curiosity about the world, whether learning to drive, learning to read, or learning to sing!

LinkedIn Learning (formerly lynda.com) has over 16,000 online courses geared toward business, technology, and creative fields — even vocal lessons! Topics include Software Development, Design, Business, Web Development, Photography, and Marketing. With your NOLS library card, you can access all of these courses for free at nols.org/linkedin-learning.

Learning to read takes time and practice. The library offers a diverse collection of Early Reader books geared toward young children learning to read, as well as an Adult Literacy Collection which includes books selected for adults wishing to improve their reading skills.

If you’re preparing for the Washington driver’s license written exam, you can find practice tests available for free through driving-test.org, available on the library’s Online Resources page (nols.org/online-resources). Practice tests include driver’s license, motorcycle license, and CDL exams.

Brainfuse HelpNow is an online tutoring service for all learning levels – kindergartners through adults – also available at nols.org. HelpNow provides one-on-one online homework help, writing assistance, access to practice tests for SAT and ACT, and more! Check it out at nols.org/helpnow.

Browsing in the library is another great way to discover something new. Nonfiction books for kids are also a good way for adults to learn something new, without committing to an in-depth study. Here are a few titles that grown-ups and kids can both enjoy.
