  • North Olympic Library System Director Announces Retirement

    December 13, 2019 – The Board of the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) has announced that Library Director Margaret Jakubcin plans to retire in the summer of 2020. Jakubcin confirmed her retirement timeline with the Library’s Board of Trustees earlier this week, and notified library staff in individual meetings and in an email sent out on Thursday.   • Humanities Washington Speaker to Present “Storm Warning”

    October 29, 2019 – Humanities Washington Speaker, local broadcaster, and historian Feliks Banel will present Storm Warning at three North Olympic Library (NOLS) locations. Banel will discuss our region’s darkest weather days and most infamous storms. With archival photos, radio, and TV clips, he will take audiences back in time to hear stories of those who survived some of the worst Pacific Northwest weather in recorded history.   • Sea Otters in Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary

    October 4, 2019 – As part of Clallam County Reads, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will host talks on sea otters in Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary at all branches. . Jessie Hale, a PhD student at the University of Washington and recipient of a NOAA Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship, will discuss the history of sea otters in Washington State, as well as her research investigating what sea otters eat and what it tells us about the health of the population.   • NOLS eliminates overdue fines

    August 26, 2019 – Beginning September 1, 2019, your library is fine free! The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will no longer charge overdue fines for items returned late, and all existing overdue fines will be waived. If an item is lost or damaged, replacement fees still apply. “No fines” does not mean “no responsibility.” The elimination of fines is one part of a comprehensive policy adjustment to improve return rates of library materials. The renovation project will focus on replacing nearly 2,600 square feet of worn carpet, constructing a wall to better define work spaces, increasing network and power access, and updating furniture to provide a more efficient work environment.
