NOLS is partnering with the Olympic-Kitsap Peninsulas Early Learning Coalition, Safeway in downtown Port Angeles, Sunny Farms, Nash’s Farm Store, and Forks Outfitters to provide a grocery store scavenger hunt that turns an ordinary shopping trip into an interactive learning experience for parents, caregivers, and young children.
To get started, print a scavenger hunt game sheet or pick one up at the Port Angeles Main Library, the Sequim Branch Library, the Forks Branch Library, the Farm Store at Sunny Farms, Nash’s Farm Store, or the customer service desk at Forks Outfitters.
Then, during your shopping trip use your game sheet to visit different departments and discover new, creative ways you can love, talk, and play with your child. Along the trip, discuss what you’ve found while hunting for the next item on your list.
- The Port Angeles Safeway is located at 110 E 3rd Street.
- The Sunny Farms Farm Store is located at 261461 Hwy 101.
- Nash’s Farm Store is located at 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way.
- Forks Outfitters is located at 950 South Forks Avenue.
Once you have finished the hunt, return your completed game sheet to the Library and receive a free Love. Talk. Play. reusable shopping tote. This fun, educational opportunity will continue for the remainder of 2018.
Studies show that spending time talking and playing with young children is crucial to early development. The Love. Talk. Play. scavenger hunt program supports parents and caregivers of young children by sharing tips and providing fun opportunities to engage with the children in their lives. The scavenger hunt is a reminder of how an everyday activity can be an opportunity for growth and learning.
Love. Talk. Play. is a part of the Library’s ongoing efforts to support early literacy programming in Clallam County and is sponsored by Thrive by Five Washington, the state’s nonprofit public-private partnership for early learning, the state Department of Early Learning, and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, along with many other statewide and local organizations.
