"My
world is not for you," Edward said grimly.
Stephanie Meyer brings us another fantastic
tale of vampires and other phenomena in "New Moon," the sequel to
Meyer's debut book "Twilight ". Similar to her last book, "New Moon" focuses on
the adventures of Bella Swan a girl who moves to the "dreary, gray town
of Forks." Ms Swan has made some interesting friends while she has
been in Forks, namely a family of vampires, the Cullens. In the
last book, Bella fell in love with Edward Cullen, Dr. Carlisle's adopted
son, who roped her into a deadly situation involving three traveling
vampires. After the family saves her, Bella tries to convince
Edward to turn her into one of the damned, so she can be with Edward
forever, but Edward rejects this, saying he doesn't want her to live
"their life."
In "New
Moon," an eighteen year-old Bella Swan is trying to get over her
birthday, but the Cullen family doesn't want to pass up this occasion,
so they throw her a birthday party. Bella doesn't mind though,
because as long as she had Edward in her life, she is happy and content.
But after a freak accident involving Jasper Dullen; the family decides
to move away, so Bella won't have to deal with their kind anymore.
Edward tells her that all wounds heal over time, so she will forget him
eventually, but she doesn't. After a four-month depression,
Charlie (Bella's dad) tells her to go out and do something productive,
or he is going to send her back to her mother. Bella befriends a
sixteen year-old LaPush teen named Jacob Black, and together they try to
fix up a couple of motorcycles.
When Bella finds out that an old adversary is
in town, looking for her and killing tourists while she does, Bella gets
tangled into a situation involving the werewolves of LaPush.
My opinion of this book is that it was better
than the last book. "Twilight" was more about character development, and
the lack of knowledge of the actual town of Forks. However, Meyer
has outdone herself this time, with a decent storyline that has it
moments. The only part of the book I didn't like was the ending,
but I won't spoil that for you. I recommend "New Moon" for young
teenagers (11-14) or for people who want a different kind of love story.
