Volunteer for Summer Reading at the Port Angeles Main Library

Make a difference for kids in our community. Spend some time this summer volunteering for the Library’s summer reading program. Young adult volunteers grades 7-12 not only get a cool summer reading t-shirt but an opportunity to be in Port Angeles’ Fourth of July parade. Teens who volunteer will assist before and after special events at the library and and help with summer reading program administration.

Learn more at an informational meeting/training session on Wednesday, June 16 at 4pm. Applications are available in the Youth Services Department or online. Or volunteers may fill out the application at the event. Spend your summer helping out at the library!

Peter Bacho, author of Leaving Yessler

Peter Bacho

On Friday, June 18 at 7pm, the Library, in partnership with Pleasure Boat Studio: a Literary Press, will present author Peter Bacho reading from his first book for young adults, Leaving Yessler, and discussing it with the audience. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

Peter Bacho is a teacher and writer who has won the American Book Award and the Washington Governor’s Writers Award for previous books. Patty Comeau, reviewer for ForeWord, writes “Though the novel takes place during the Vietnam War, this tale of a mixed race, impoverished, and soon-to-be orphaned American rings true to a contemporary setting. Bacho’s technique of magical realism and the value placed on self-determination, presents … a strong message of non-conformity.”
