The Library offers special collections of materials, services and programs for children from birth through grade 6. You’ll find free programs, the latest and best in picture books, chapter books, fiction and non-fiction, books on CD, homework help, fun and games online, and a wealth of information for parents, teachers and others who work with kids.

Baby Storytimes @ Your Library
baby_storytimeThe Port Angeles Main Library of the North Olympic Library System is pleased to offer another 4-week Born to Read storytime series for babies ages 0-12 months old and the adults who love them. Born to Read storytimes will take place on Thursdays in March at 10:30 am. At Born to Read, you’ll learn rhymes, songs, and finger plays and share them with your baby. Storytimes introduce infants and young children to the joy of books and reading in a fun, participatory setting, and teach vital early literacy concepts. Pre-registration is required for Born to Read storytimes; please contact the Youth Services Department at (360) 417-8526 or Kids@nols.org.

39 Clues @ your library

The 39 Clues Global Adventure

Port Angeles Main Library

Will you be the first to crack the code? Join the scavenger hunt Wednesday, March 10 at 6:00 pm based on the popular 39 Clues series. The 39 Clues is a 10-book series, each penned by a different author. When their grandmother dies, Amy and Dan, along with their relatives are given the choice to uncover the secrets of their family tree or inherit a million dollars. Amy and Dan choose the chase. Contestants from grades 2 – 7 will also choose the chase at the Port Angeles Library. Books in the 39 Clues series include Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan, One False Note by Gordon Korman, The Sword Thief by Peter Lerangis, Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson, The Black Circle by Patrick Carman, In Too Deep by Jude Watson, and The Viper’s Nest by Peter Lerangis. A movie based on the series and directed by Steven Spielberg is slated to be released in 2011.

Meet Addy Book CoverThere’s going to be a Tea Party! This special event for kids ages 7 - 12 who love the American Girl series will take place on Saturday, March 27 at 10am. If you like, come dressed as your favorite character from the American Girl series. Game On!

Port Angeles Main Library

Game On! Kids in grades 2 through 5 can try out the Library’s video game equipment by playing Dance, Dance Revolution, Lego Star Wars and more on the second Thursday of the month (on February 11 and March 11) starting at 3:45pm.

Drop-In Chess

Port Angeles Main Library

After-school chess games for children and teens start on Tuesday, January 5, and continue every Tuesday thereafter, from 3:30 to 4:30pm. Chess boards will be available, and young people in elementary through high school grades are welcome to participate. Registration is not required.

Legos @ your Library

The excitement is “building” at the North Olympic Library System. Children ages 8 through 12 can Join in the Lego fun! They will read, imagine, and build fabulous Lego constructions during three separate Saturday programs. The first program’s theme, on January 9, will be inspired by Zoo Animals. The next program, on February 13, will feature a Pirate theme. The third program, on March 13, will be all about Bionicles. All programs start at 2:00 pm and registration is not required.
