Clallam County Obituary Index
The North Olympic Library System maintains an
obituary index created through many volunteer hours dating back to 1916 and
currently has more than 40,000 obituaries entries.
The index contains:
-
The name of the paper
-
The issue date & page
-
The birth date or age and death date as given in the newspaper
-
Any other names by which the deceased was known such as
- Maiden name
-
Prior married name(s)
-
Nicknames
CAUTION
- Not everyone had an obituary.
- Not every old paper exists so that it can be searched.
- Do not assume that death occurred in Clallam County! Notices
come from all over!
- This index contains obituaries printed in the Port Angeles Evening
News, The Daily News, and the Peninsula Daily News.
- Earlier Port Angeles, Sequim, Forks and other Clallam County
Newspapers are available at the Port Angeles Branch on microfilm and CD
ROM, but are not indexed.
- The Sequim Branch has copies of the Sequim Press on microfilm and the
Jimmy Come Lately Gazette in hard copy from 1979 to present.
- The Forks Branch has the Forks Forum available on microfilm from
1938-1967 and an incomplete collection on CD-Rom from 1946-present.
If writing to request a copy, please:
- Remember that the librarians do not have unlimited time for research;
please limit the number of records requested. For multiple requests
or in-depth research, please contact the
Clallam County Genealogical Society
Library.
- Include as complete death date or newspaper issue date, page, etc, if
known, as possible.
- Include a #10 (business) stamped envelope with your return address.
- A $5 donation is suggested for each article.
