What is HeritageQuest?

HeritageQuest is a source for finding out more about your family's history, the history of a local region, and genealogy research. It provides access to U.S. census records, books, periodicals, Revolutionary War service records, and Freedman's Bank depositor records. It also can lead you to resources on how to do genealogy research.

How is the HeritageQuest web site organized?

It is divided into five areas that you can search:

Click on a box below to learn how to use that area of HeritageQuest.

Heritage Quest gives you access to U.S. Census records from 1790-1930.   PERSI is the "Periodical Source Index." It links you to magazines containing genealogical information.
Find book titles about families and the places they lived.
Heritage Quest links you to military service records from the U.S. Revolutionary War.   Freedman's Bank was established to serve freed slaves; this link leads you to depositors' records.
