Check out your local NOLS library this summer for fun activities that encourage reading, inspire creativity and problem-solving, and provide opportunities to make a difference in your community. Summer reading is great at any age, but particularly important for young people. Kids who don’t read during the summer can lose up to a third of what they learned in the previous school year! The Library’s Summer Reading activities engage young people and families to help prevent the “summer slide” and build a lifelong love of reading.
The 2017 Summer Reading Program includes reading incentive programs and fun events happening both within and beyond Library walls. From magicians to musicians, and solar eclipses to zombie apocalypses, NOLS has summer fun for everyone!
TAKE THE SUMMER READING CHALLENGE! WIN AWESOME PRIZES!
Each Library branch will draw a winning ticket for kids, teens, and adults.
Each winner will have the opportunity to select one of four prizes:
- A whale watching tour for one with Island Adventures Whale Watching
- An airplane flight for one with Rite Brothers Aviation
- A gift certificate to a local restaurant
- A LEGO® set
IT’S EASY TO PLAY - YOU JUST NEED TO READ OR BE READ TO!
Anyone ages 0-200 can participate in the Summer Reading Challenge.
Beginning June 17, sign-up at your local NOLS library and receive a free book made possible by Friends of the Library groups!
Read or be read to for 15 days and receive a ticket for the grand prize drawing. For every 15 days you read through August 19, you will get another ticket.
Read for 30 days between June 17 and August 19 and get a special NOLS Summer Reading Challenge T-shirt.
There is no minimum reading time required, and you don’t have to read every day (though you may want to).
Have fun with the challenge and see how many reading days you can build up!
