Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch Reader

Starting December 19, 2011, patrons of the North Olympic Library System will be able to do what few library patrons in the entire country can do--check out a Nook e-reader!

Approximately the size of a paperback and weighing less than eight ounces, the Barnes & Noble Nook can hold the equivalent of hundreds of books. It’s like carrying a small library in your pocket (or purse). The Nook operates by touch screen (similar to smart phones), allowing users to turn the “page,” look up words, and bookmark sections with a touch of a finger. Font style and size can also be adjusted for your personal reading comfort.

The Nook comes pre-loaded with ten popular fiction and nonfiction titles for adults. In addition, patrons can download e-books from Washington Anytime Library. Like all books, these can be “checked out” for a three-week period simply by using one’s library card. E-readers will check out for three weeks and holds may be placed on them. Overdue fines are $5 per day up to a maximum of $50. If the e-reader or its parts are lost or damaged, replacement fees will be charged. Click here to go to the library catalog's Nook listings.
